Spanish Water Dog
Posted: 31-07-2012
The Spanish Water Dog is not well known outside
of Spain, but in their homeland they're a very versatile working dog, used to
herd sheep, goats and cattle, as well as to retrieve fish – they dive under the
water to get the ones that are outside the net.
They are easy to train, are very faithful to
their owners, and have strong herding and guarding instincts. It has been
reported that they can become irritable with children, and so this is certainly
something to be aware of if you are interested in this breed.
Size varies considerably, from 38-50cm. The woolly
coat is curly and doesn't shed. Colours can be black, brown, white, or a
combination (but they should never be tri-coloured).
